RETURNING TROOPS
ARRIVAL OP MARAMA. By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, July.l 7. The ambulance carrier Marama arrived this morning. The Auckland troops were disembarked, and the vessel sailed for Wellington at 5.30 p.m. The vessel's complement totals 641 of all ranks, including a staff of 13 officers, 17 nursing sisters, and 95 other ranks, while the patients numbered 20 officers, 2 sisters, and 546 other ranks. There were only four actual cot cases.on the .transport, but 107 soldiers have returned minus a'leg or an arm. The American citizens, of the Panama ZontS again gave the New Zealanders a thoroughly good welcome.' TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS. . The Marama left Auckland at 5 30 p.m. 7esterdav, .and is expected to arrive at Wellington early tu-niorrow morning. The vessel will berth atiS a.m. Men for stations between Wellington and Palmerston North will leave by train from Thorndon Station''.-at 2 p.m. to-morrow. Details for Palmerston North, Wanganui. and New Plymouth will depart from Tkorndpri at 8, a.m. on Monday,, and men for.bevond Wanganui to New Plymouth . wjl! be billeted at Wanganui, proceeding •to their destination at 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday The meh for places between Palmerston North, and Napier will also leave Thorndon at 8 o'clock on Monday mornins. Men for Masterlon and tho Wairarapa will proceed by train leaving Lambton Station.at 4.28 p.m. to-morrow, and flien for places between Masterton and Woodville will leavo from Lambton Station at 8 a.m. on Monday. Picton and Nelson men will leave by the Ma.nourika at noon on Monday. HOTELS TO CLOSE TO-MORROW _ a_J * LICENSED VICTUALLERS' DECISION. . No hotels will bo open in Wellington to-morrow. This decision wa3 arrived at yesterday at a very representative meeting of the Wellington Licensed Victuallers' Association. Forty-two "licensees were present out of a total of 47 in tho district, and tho following resolution was carried:—"That the Wellington licensed victuallers close their hotels on Saturday, July 19, in common i.ith other businesses, so as to enable themselves and the staffs to take part in 1110 peace cele- . brations." The effect of this resolution is that no meals will 'bo.served in any of the hotels to-morrow, and as it is possible that tho Testaurant-keopers may follow a similar line of action to the licensed victuallers, the public would be well advised to take refreshments ivith them if they contemplate spending, the whole day away from their homes. ■ '. DECISION IN PALMERSTON. (Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, July 17. At a meeting of the Palmerston North licensed, victuallers to-day, those present unanimously decided to keep their bars closed on the morning ef Saturday, July 19, until 12 noon, iiy which time the procession will have lassed to the showgrounds.
