CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
The first half-yearly meeting of the Wellinuton Caledonian Society, held on Tuesdav nisrht, was attended by 160 fully financial adult members and about -10 iuvenils members. Mr. D. Clark, senr., chief of the society, ocouuied the chair, nnd read the directors' ranort. He said that tho society, sinco its inception, had made great strides. It had now three hundred fullv financial members, and between forty and fifty applications for membershit) had not vet been dealt with by tho directors. It was evident that the society was orocccdiiijr on the right lines. Hr. filnrk reminded Hie meeting of tho obiocts of the society, but said that until Iho society could obtain a permanent home, somo of tho main objects could not be successfully attempted. The chief emnhnsisnd the society's intention of meetiiur brother Scots on their arrival in New Zealand, and making them feel at home in their country. This, he stated, could not bo carried out to best advantage unless the society had its home ready to receive the newcombts. Jn conclusion. Mr. Clark made reference to the society's satisfactory financial nosition. After the-business of the meeting tho ovenins was then devoted to dancing and enmes.
