S.M., with tho city and! visiting clerev. Tho various religious orders wero also represented. Double Wedding at Petone. A double wedding was celebrated by the Eev. T. H. Stealey, JI.A., at St. Augustine's Churoh, Petone, yesterday afternoon, when Kiss Nellie Leadbetter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Leadbetter, of Armidale Street, l'etone, was married to Mr. T. B. Proebstel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Proebstel, of Eichmond Stroet, Petone; and Miss Isabella Leadbetter, to Mr. W. W. Jones son of Mrs. E. Jones, of Nelson Street, Petone. Tho respective, bridesmaids and hest men were:—Miss Mary Campbell and Mr. M. Stewart, and 'Miss Jennie Leadbetter (sister of the bride) and Mr. Harold Jones (brother of tho bridegroom). Both brides wore tailored costumes of trimmed gabardine, and the bridesmaids wore dresses of saxo bluo. RED CROSS COMMITTEE

' VARIOUS ACTIVITIES. A meeting of the Wellington Bed Cross Committee was held in tho Mercer, Street. Depot yesterday afternoon; The chairman, Mr. T. I'oung, presided, and there were also present; Mesdnmes Adams, M. Myers, L. Hlnndell, W. Nathan, and Sefton Moorhouse, Messrs. Tripp apd Munt, and Miss .Sybil Nathan (lion, secretary). Mrs. Martin, a representative of tho Eeathorston Bed Cross, was'also' at the meeting. Apologies were* received from Mrs. J. P. Luko and Mrs. Tirth for their unavoidable absence.

Amonp the various matters, that were dealt -with was the request niAdo to tho committoe by.the Crippled Soldiers' and Snilors'. Hostel Committee for financial support in the upkeep of the hostel. A sub-committee had been set up. to confer with representatives of-the. hostel, and as a result of their interviews this subcommittee recommended the meeting to authorise tho payment of n, sum of .E4GB, this, amount covering certain .cxnenditure met by the hostel during tho" timo it had been in existence right up to the present yenr.' With a system of complete records kept at the hostel the Red Cross Committee would gain ft further knowledge of what .wns needed for the. sup-port-of the institution. Lewis with regard to tho part in the procession to be taken by representatives of the Red Cross Committee, and another from the-secretary, of tho Wellington's Showmen's Association, in which it was stated • that arrangements had been'made for the..freo 'attendance at their • theatres _of eoldiers upon producing their hospital certificates. A grant of the _ sum of ..£lB5 for making a concrete tennis court at Trentham Hospital was authorised. . •

As a result of tlie interview of the subcommittee which waited upon the Minister of Defence in regard to the question of soldiers in hospital being allowed to receive the proceeds resulting from tlio salo of their handiwork, Mr. Young told the meeting that it had been decided that all such funds should go to the Soldiers' Recreation Fund, which was to ijo administered by a committee appointed from the soldiers 'themselves, with the excoption that one articlo in foiiiv could ho retained by its maker and'; either sold for his own benefit or otherwise disposed of. They could also buy i anything they made-at a small perqent-! age upon cost. Arrangements were discussed in regard to what steps should Ijo taken to assist (he soldiers 111 disposing of their wca'lc. A briof account was read of.the London Red Cross. Committee's activities, in which it was stated that the 'committee was left with a balance, of £11,878 7s. dd.
