HUTT BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB
. ANNUAL CONCERT. For some years past one of the moat popular events with- residents of tlio Hutt district lias been tho annual Howling Club concert. .This year's concert, tho ninth, \vliich>was held in tlio Town Hall, Lower Hurt, last evening, proved no exception to tfio rule, and tho large hull was filled, to overflowing. Among tihoso present were the Hon. T. JI. Wilford, Mr.' E. P. Rishworth (Mayor of Lower Hutt), and other prominent local residents. The programme, a somewhat lengthy one, opened with a seleotiou, "Three Littlo' Maids" (Paul Rubens), by the Orphans' Club Orchestra.,. jlr. Rupert Meates sang "THie Gallant Salamander" (Barnard), and for an encore gavn "/Vllah'si Holiday," fropi "Katinka." A new performer at these concerts. Mrs. M. Bletsoe Buckeridge, sail? "Sink. Red Sun" (Teresa del Riego) and "Welcome Spring." An apology was received for the absence of -tho next performer on the list, Mr. Norman Aitken. Mr, Herbert Wood was heard to advantage in his old favourites, "Destiny" and "Tako a Pair of Sparkling Eyes." Miss Nola. Haybittle, another new performer, caused some amusement by lifer rendering of tlio humorous song, "Men" (Paul Rubens), and "Up in an Aoroplune." The next item was a violin duet by Miss Cooney and Mr.-'-Watson. These players gave a delightful rendering of Moskowski's "Serenade," and an encoro number was demanded. Two bracketed numbers, "Lovers' in. tho Lane" (Liza .Lehmann) and "Haymaking'' (Alicia Needham), were siing, by, Miss Cara Holgate. In response to;, aii-'insistent demftnd fori an encore Miss' Holgntb 'giive "The Enchajited Forest;?' .'Mr,; Len. Barnes (who' is' leaving shortly for the United States).gave a line rendering of "Danny Peever".(Damrosch), arid for an. en core gave "A Request." Mr. Albert Russoll kept his- audieneo amused with-:, 'numbers, "Priceless Percy, with One Pip Up" and "Tho Honoymoon" At the conclusion of tlio last-nahaed item, the, audience was 6till for "more,"' and Mr. Russell camo forward again and related some humorous stories. The Orphans' Club Orchestra opened the second part of tlio ■programnie with' "The Pink Lady." Mr. E. J. Hill sang "Waiata Poi." and was assisted by the Dannevirko Maori Maidens under the leadership of Mrs. Wi Duncan. Other items during tho second half of the progr-ammb were;— Humorous songs, "The Military Representatives" and "Hero Come tlio Married Men," 'Miss Nola Haybittle; "The Calf of Gold" and "Route Marches," Mr. Len .Barnes; a humorous duet, "My Croony Melody," Mrs. Buckeridge und Mr. Albert Russell; song, "Night" (Mallinson), Miss Cara Holgp.to; a double poi representing a eanoo race, by the Dan'nevirke Maori Maidens; and h'umoroUssong, "Senora" (Lee), by Mr. Albert Russell. A most .successful entertainment was brought to a close at a late hour by the singing of the National Anthem.
