At. the Magist rate's Court three charges were heard of distributing dodgers for the purpose of influencing voles in the licensing poll iu April last. Counsel for defendants said that for weeks before the' election the newspapers were full of advertisements advising the people how to- vote, yet when a man distributed inoffensive papers for the same purpose he was prosecuted. The 'Magistrate said there could be a prosecution only by the direction of the Minister, subject to an opinion being expressed by tho chairman adjudicating in ilie Court, that the irregularity affected the fairness of t.he result, of tho poll.
