APPEAL OF THE Y.W .C,A.
Tho public are asked to subscribo to tho Y.W.C.A. fund, becauso this excellent institution is handicapped for lack of money. Its hostel has always a big waiting list of girls eager to possess a decent bedroom and 6ome comfort. Recently the committee bought a houso in Brougham Street, and is adding rooms for -15 girls. When these are ready they\ will bo always filled. Girls earning small wages in_ factories, and a 6 typistes, find the question of lodgings the woist trouble of all. Wellington is. full of people, and lodgings—a single room, or ono to share with another girl—aro scarce. The high prices of rooms e<its up their small saDaries, and they ara often sorely pinched for money to buy clothes and food. If tho public were at all aware of the very serious question this "is to girls, the money wouTu ' surely bo found. Tho position is so serious, it cries aloud for immediato relief. The Y.W.C.A. committee has put oft' this appeal to the very last moment. Much has been dono for the young men, and it is considered to be timo the weaker sex were given genuine help. Tho i Y.W.C.A. is doing good work, but it is absolutely in need of imore money. | i
