City Council tonight the Finance Committee recommended that a <£ for J) subsidy bo paid on all contributions from local bodies in North Canterbury for entertainment during tho visit of lord Jeliicoe, condition, ally on tho council's sharo not oxeeediug • £2 ' 5D - ■ , Some of tho Labour members of tho council objected to such expenditure, stating that the' entertainment that would bo given to tho Admiral would be beyond tho means of'working men. Tho Mayor said the majority of the proposed sum would bo expended: oii entertaining tho men of tho fleet. Tho committees report was adopted.
