A Mediation/ Auckland July 13. The auxiliary schooner Isabella do Frame was driven off the coaEt by westerly gales and hove-to for twelve days. The crew had- a trying time, as heavy Boas caused the vessel to roll greatly, and loosened the gear aloft. The forcstay earned away, and the vessel was nearly dismasted. Two sails split and the main boom was broken. The hull started to leak, but no damage was done except of a slight nature to tho manure cargo. THE PORT PlltlE. The Commonwealth and Dominion Linn steamer Port Pirie, which arrived at Auckland from Newcastle on Monday, was released from ouarantino detention on Tuesday afternoon, and berthed at tho Queen's Wharf. She left London on April 17 for No.w Zealand, via Capo Town and Australian ports. She has 1600 tons of cargo for Auckland, the balance being for Napier and Wellington. She was to have left Auckland yesterday for Napier. After completion of discharge she will go on the loading berth at New/Zealand ports for London. The Port Pirio was formerly known as the Star of India, and last visited. Auckland nearly ilvo years ago, When sho took away a large jiumber of .tho Main Body troops. Since then sho has been engaged principally in carrying frozen meat from River Plate to Europe. Captain F. Farmar is in command, and has with him the following ohicers:—First. J. Ferris; second, W. L. Lynd; third, A. S. Moore; chief engineer, A. Weir; second, H. Sparks; third, S. Webb; chief steward, A. Hales. VESSELS DELAYED. The bars at Westport and Greymouth were reported to bo unworkable on Saturday. No word was received yesterday of the departure of tho Kakapo and the Komata from Westport or tho departure of tho Kini, the Kamo, and the Ngahere from Greymouth. The Kamona arrived outside tho Grey roadstead on Saturday morning, but could not enter. The Kahika, which left Westport on Friday night, was reported to be standing by the Kowhai to Tender assistance in the refloating operations. MANUKA DUE TO-DAY. Having apparently been delayed by the bad weather the Manuka failed to' mako port yesterday, and she is now duo early this morning. Wireless information received from the vessel yesterday was to the effect that tho health of all was good. The vessel is to berth at No. 6 Queen's Wharf, and sho has 700 tons of cargo for discharge here. She is set down to return to Sydney on Thursday. PATEENA FOE OXEIIUNGA. The Pateena will commence- in the Wel-lingtou-Onehunga run this morning. Iter time-table is given out as follows by the Union Company:—Sho.will leave Wellington on Mondays and Thursdays at 9 a.m.. arriving at Onehunga on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Sho will leave Onehunga on the return trip on Tuesday and Saturday, afternoons, arriving hero on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. Passengers and mails will be carried, but no cargo. . THE MOKOIA. Tho Mokoia- is to leave Auckland today for Wellington, via Gisborne and Napier, and b)io is due here on Thursday. She will-' sail the same day for Lyttelton and Dunedin. CHUPEA REPORTED.. Cable advice has been received by tho New Zealand Shipping Company that tho stoamer Chupra, with troops from London, left Colombo on July A for'Fremantle and Lyttelton. Sho is duo at the former port on Wednesday, and at Lyttelton on July 22. SHROPSHIRE ARRIVES. From Newcastle,, with a cargo of coal, tho Shropshire arrived, yesterday morning.Sho will berth this morning, but whether tho watersidcrs will unload her cargo until seven days clapoo from her departure from' Newcastle remains to be seen this morning. On completion of discharge hero the Shropshire is to proceed to Napier to commence Homeward loading.' Tho Shropshire is a ftvo-masted ■ twinscrew steamer of 12,184 tons, built in 1911 by Messrs.' J. The Shrop-' shire ia in command of Captain J. L. p. Hunter. WRECKED KEBSAINT ABANDONED. Tho latest advice from tho Society Is. lauds statos that 'tho French man-of-war Kcrsaint, which was stranded on Morea Island, near Papeete, has been abandoned by the French Government. Sho has been dismantled for some t-imo in order to accelerate salvage operations. Many attempts wore made to tow her oh' tho reef, but without success. THE TALUNIi. Tho Island steamer Taluno arrived at Auckland from Fiji on Wednesday morning and anchored in the stream for medical inspection. She afterwards berthed at tho Queen's Wharf to laud her passengers and a largo cargo of fruit. She left Auckland on June 17, and rfince then haß been to Fiji, Sa/.ioa, and Tonga. Tho weather throughout' was fine and the voy.ago was uneventful. Tho only vessel met with at tlie Island ports was the Tutanekai, at Vavau, with tho Governor-General on board. The Talune's cargo consists of about 20,000 cases of fruit and a quantity of sundrios.. After discharging tier inward cargo she will return to the Is'landF. An unexpected arrival in the Btrcam early this niorning was the City of Dunkirk from Dunedin. The following vessels were expected to be within wireless range of Auckland yesterday:— Orari, Arahura, Port Piric, Kaitoa, and Fiona. A record was established in regard to shipping at Dunedin on Saturday, says a Press Association telegram, when thirty vessels, including several oversea liners, berthed at Dunedin and Port Chalmers, their gross tonnage being 90,747. Tho Ruahine left yesterday for Lyttelton and Dunedin to continue the discharge of her Homo cargo. Tho full-rigged ship Terpsichoro went out in to the stream on Saturday morning, and she will leave for London at tho flrst favourable opportunity. The Port Napier, at present loading coal at Newcastle for Auckland, is due o.t the northern port about July 20. After dis--chargo sho iPiU load at Auckland, Gisborne and Wellington for Home ports, leaving Wellington about August 15 for London, via Panama. Tho next C. and D. steamer from New York after the Port Elliot will bo the Port Alma, which' will loavo tho American port in August for New Zealand and Australian ports. The Hazel Re'pton is at present being fitted out prior to proceeding to Auckland to cngago in coal carrying. - On tho run up tho coast the.schooner will take a load of cargo for tlie northern i-ort. At noon to-day tlie Stella is to leave for Westport direct to load scrap iron for Dunedin. The Karu is to leave to-day ior New Plymuuth, taking cargo. The coal exported from the port of Oroymouth for the week ended Juno 28 totalled 5684 tons 15cwt. During tho month 27 steamers (13.316 tons) entered tho port a-pd 31 steamers (14,670 tons) and one sailer v3OB tons) departed. Tho wooden American stoamer Annette Rolf, which put into Auckland for coal and water on January 13. while bound from San Francisco to Wellington, arrived at Honolulu on May 4 with engine troubles. The Scales barnue Eaupo completed her discharge of 20,000 cases of gaeolino at Napier on Wednesday, and sailed for Auckland. Judging by the activity of the charter market during the month of April, the export business of the North Pacific is on tho verge of an era of good times, says tho "Shipping List." Chartering for tho United Kingdom lumber trade has featured and there is also every indication that a larao fleet of Government vessels will Bhortly bo engaged in freighting railroad material from tho North Pacific to Atlantic ports. At the present time there wo eleven square-rigged En-iling vessels in port at Sydney. Of this number one' is a fourmasted barque, four are barques, three are full-rigged ships, while there are three barquentines. Of the national flags represented, thrco are Norwegian, one Finnish, three fly tho Stars and Stripes, thrco tho red ensign, whilo Denmark haß one representative. Interesting references to the frejtrnt position between Japan and Australia- aro contained in a letter received from hobe by a well-known, business house in Melbourne. Tho communication, which is dated May 4, states; "Referring to tho shipment by the steamer — at tho .low rate of 21a. Bd. per ton, tho rato-of freight from Kobo to Sydney and Melbourne, we may mention that tho chief freight is simply a cutting rate, and the company arc dispatching the above-mentioned extra steamer in order to cut the other company out of the Australian run. Under these circumstances it is impossible to sa-v whether there will any further sailings at this cheap rate." Tho" Hong-Kong and Whampoa Dock Company, Ltd.. on March 27 launched fmni, their Hong-Kong yard the steamer War Sniper, the larsrcst vessel yet built by the company. The War Sniper is a standard steamer of the B class. 400 ft. in length, and with a deadweight capacuy of 6KSO tons. It iB anticipated that a. speed of 11 knots loaded will be obtained. The vessel has been built to tho order of the Shipping Controller.
