» USE BARRED ON THE RANGE. . \ London, July 11. The New Zealandcrs nt Bisley, using the Ross rifle in the sweepstake matches, carried everything before them, while tho Australians, using Lee-Enfields, could not satisfactorily compete against them. Tho exceptional shooting of the Now Zealanders caused tho banning of the Ross rifle. 1 'The Canadian and Australian teams entered a protest against tho uso of the Ross riflo by the New Zealand competitors on the ground that it is not a "service" rifle. The 'protest was upheld by tho Bisley Committee, and itn decision was confirmed by the War Office. The Ross is a very high-class rifle, whioh was adopted as the service weapon, prior to the war, in tho Canadian Forces. When the Canadians fought in France, however, it was found necessary to exchange. the Ross for the British service Lee-En-' field—Aus.-N.Z., Cable Asn. (Rec. July 13, 5.5 p.m.) London, July 11.
