A Press Association cablegram from London states that iTdinbiM'gli University is conferring tho honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on Sir Thomas Mackenzie, New Zealand High Commissioner. The late Quartermaster-Sergeant .Tames Galbraith, of No. 5 Group, was. buried in tho military section of the Karori Cemetery with full military honours on Saturday morning. The pall-bearers were members of tho Group OHice stall', and the O.C.D. was represented by Lieutenant J. Thomson. Quartermaster-Sergeant Gal'braith was very popular in the group, and the different brandies of the service were fully represented. Mr. Walter Ylamsay, who died at. his home in Pukekohe, Auckland, recently, aged 82, was born and educated in Glasgow. Ho learned his trade there, and 57 years ago came out to Dunedin in the ship Cheviot. After being in Dunedin for a year, he went further north, and in 18(15 he travelled to Hokitikn, from Christchurch, over the track across (he Wcstland Alps, and was one of tho first men to settle there. He established himself in Hokitikn as a saddler and harness maker, and carried on a. very successful business until the population began lo dwindle away, owing to the falling off in the gold mining industry. While residing in Hokilika ho took a keen interest in public affairs, and was a m.unber of the Borough Coinioi: and otln'i' lo'.'nl l.Hidies.
