FROZEN MEAT EXPORTS
'—+7, . Stocks of frozen meat in New Zealand now awaiting shipment are still ver> heavy. On June 15, there were in the stores meat equivalent to 7,300,000 freight carcasses of lißlb., for which no insulated tonnage had l>cen provided. There are at present 6even steamers in NewZealand loading, and to load insulated cargo. With the butter and cheese export season about to begin, it seems difficult to sec how anything but a partinl clearance can be effected of the meat in store before Hie new slaughtering season opens in December. The insulated tonnage position, owing to strikes and other causes of delay in ~ne United Kingdom, is necessarily' obscure, so far as New Zealand is concerned, but if the meat now ill store can bo reduced to 4,000,000 carcasses, i: is considered that freezing companies will be enabled .to continue operations throughout next season without any serious inconvenience. So fur as Hie dairy produce now in the freezing, chambers is concerned, the butter is practically a.ll cleared out, but there are 240,000 crates of cheese in store, not. allowing for quantities for which space' Bus beon allocated in Homewardbound vessels.
