MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
The. monthly meeting of the M.'fkara County Council"-was held ' yesterday. Councillor S. Bryant presided, and there were present Councillor E. AVindley, D. Prosser, L. D. Nairn, AV; E.' Cook, and S. Bowler. A property-ownor in tho Porirua Riding, who had obtained permission from the council to erect a gate across a public' road, had allowed tho gato to become an obstruction through being in disrepair. The council at its last meeting requested that tho'gate should be repaired and mado a gate within tho meaning of the Act. As this had not been complied with it was resolved 'to notify him that ! his authority had been cancelled. A letter was received from tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board announcing tho withdrawal of tho epidemic contingency estimates. This announcement, was heartily greeted by the councillors. Notice of motion was given that tho general rate for tho Porirua Riding for tho year ending March 31 next bo ono penny and twenty-three sixty-fourths of n penny in the £, and for tho Makara Riding ono penny in tho £. Discussion on the wandering stock nuisanco occupied a considerable time, and it was resolved to prosecute aii offender* -whose stock may be seized by the Tnnger. The Knrori Borough Council's applica. lion for a further grant of .£l2 10s. for maintenance of the Main Karori Road was granted.
