Mrs. F. Donnelly (Hawke's Bay) has been spending some days in town; Mrs. Norman Elder (Waikanae) and Mrs. Bauchop have been in town to farewell Mr. Norman Elder, who has left to continuo his studies at Cambridge University. Mr. Elder was on activo service during the war and was twice wounded.
Mrs. E. W. Pharazyii, widow of ■ the iato Hon. Robert Pharazyn, M.L.C., Wellington, who died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs, H. M'Murdo, Takapuna, Auckland, in her 9Sth year, enjoyed splendid health till a few weeks ago, when she commenced to fail. The deceased lady arrived in New Zealand from England in 18G3, and lived for some time at Wellington. She was then a widow, Mrs. Loinax, and subsequently sho married the Hon. R. Pharassyn. In 1871 she went to.Wanganui, and stayed till 1881, when she and her husband went on a trip to Engf'.and. They returned to Wellington, and in 189(i her husband died. Subsequently Mrs. l'harazyn .lived in Wanganui and Napier, eventually residing with her daughter nt Takapunn.- There are four surviving children—Major H. A. Louuix, Mrs. A. Stedman, Mrs. A. Fowler, and Mrs. 11. M'Murdo.'
The monthly committee meeting of the Levin, Memorial Home was had at the Hoinoj Berhampore. Mirs. Hoby presided;'members present being Mesdames West, Christie, Hall, Misses Robieson, 1). Greenwood, Speed, Young, Morrah, and Barry. The matron reported the children wore well. Gifts were acknowledged from the following:—Miss Young, Mrs. West, Miss Archibald, Miss Robieson, Mrs. Green, and Hurcombe and Sons. A donation of i£lo 10s. from the Oppenheimer Casing Co., Ltd., was received with much appreciation. It was decided to hold the annual gift tea in September. The date witt be fixed- later.
Mrs. Walker, wifo of Professor Maxwell Walker, of Auckland, is at present staying in Wellington for tho benefit of .her health.
The old ante-room of the, City Council Chamber, used during the war as a storeroom for all'the goods necessary to seud abroad to the war, has-been redecorated and furnished as.a room for the Mayoress.
Mrs. R. Kennett, of Christchurch, •and 'her daughter, Mrs. Wilde (wifo of tho Antarctic explorer), are at present residents of Wellington. Mrs. Kennett s son,' who is still undergoing hospital, treatment after a hot spell of activo service, intends to go on the land in the Hawke's Bay district.
Mrs. AYostburv-Hughes returned to Wellington on Tuesday after a long visit to tlio South Island, and is staying with her sister, Miss Chatfield, at "Hurston," Island Bay.
In the list of further donations received by the Mothers' Help Division of the Women's National Kescrvo the Warehousemen's Association appeared as having Riven £88 towards the fund: The sum should--have beeh £& Bs. . /
Mrs. Kineton Varices arrived in Wellington from the south yesterday, and is the guest of Lady Stout.
. The extras at the city corporation staff ball were;played by Mrs. J. J. Ames Sire. H. Cauo, Mr. J. lee', and Mr. Harold Whiteman (2). The piano was lent by the Bristol Piano Company.

Hannah will present tho, scene from tho "Midsummer Night's Dream," given a little while ago in connection' with the kindergarten entertainment, and members of ■'•'Charley's Aunt" Club.will also help with the programme.
To celebrate peace,-the staff of Kirkcaldie and Stains' are giving a supper, followed by dancing and,cards, in the tearoom next week.
The medals which were presented to the members of the original executive of the Women's Anti-German League from the Alliance Franeaise (Paris) were suoh as would be much valued by their re. cipients. It would not be possible to wear them as fhey are too large, being about the size of a man's ordinary watch. On one side of the bronze disc is represented France, a femalo figure, succouring her children, the design being both simple and dignified. On the other is an open book crossed with a pen and surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves, with tho words "Alliance' Franeaise" on the outside. , Society for the Protattion of Women and Children, A meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held in the society's rooms yesterday, the president, • Lady Stuut, occupying the chair. There were also present; "Mesdames Ewen, Chapman, Fonsonby, H, Kirkuildie, Hard, Atkinson, Glover, and Dr. Ada Patersou. A number of cases were reported upon, and it was stated that others had 'been attended to. Several maintenance orders were also seentu. In ono case, that of cruelty to a child, upon the matter Laving been reported to tho society the treatment accorded to the child was at once changed, and matters were now upon a satisfactory, basis. Reference was inado at tho meeting to tho prevalence' of skin troubles among school children, and Dr. Ada Palerson assured the meeting' that this trouble was apt to appear among children 'it various times, and really had. no serious origin. ' Tt was stated at the meoting that replies had been received from some of the Ministers and members cf Parliament in regard to the resolution that had been forwarded to them urging that women be eligible for Parliament. In most cases the replies were favourable. Y.W.C.A. Notes. To-morrow afternoon at the Y.W.C.A. an evangelical meeting will be held when Mr. Towushcnd will address those present. All girls and young vomeii, especi-. ally those who are strangers to the city, will be cordially welcomed. Y.W.C.A. members are reminded of the weekly social to take place in the clubreom to-night. Miss Caddick has made arrangements for .an excellent musical and games programme, and there will be jolly choruses and rhythmic games. Tho Anzae Club has in hand tho arrangements involved in ihe getting of supper. Tho Extension Clubs which are held at the Y.W.C.A. on Monday u.ights stand for self-development and service. Already a course, including home-nursing and First Aid has boon ijnished, and on Monday next, a term of eight weeks, which will bo devoted to the study of English literature, will commence. This will afford a splendid opportunity for girls to develop this side of their intellectual studies, as efficiently trained loaders are ready to nndertako tho leadership of various circles. Any girl who wishes to join should hand in her name without further delay lo Iho office, Fowlds' Buildings, Herbert Street.
