LINER STRIKES AN ICEBERG
♦ GRAMPIAN'S CAPTAIN PREVENTS GREAT DISASTER., Halifax, July 10. The Grampian struck aw iceberg off Newfoundland. The bow of the steamer was damaged. Several of tha crew were killed. There was no panic. The captain prevented another Titanic disaster by turning the ship bow 'on to avoid n- glancing blow. 7he Grampian was, able to proceed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assii. ' [The Gra'nrpian is. a steamer of 10,955 tons, belonging to the Allan Line (Cana-dinn-Paeinc Ocean Services). Tho White Star liner Titanic was lost by striking an iceberg a glancing blow, which ripped a long hole in her side. The turning of a ship bow on would result in only the forward compartments being damaged, and usually a steamer can survive such injury.!
