DAMAGt; TO LAW OFFICES. A lire broke out in the back part of the offices uf Messrs. Field. Luekie, and ■Slnddvu, barristers and solicitor*, Fe«therslon SI reel, Iwlween HO a.m. and :l a.m. yoslerday. Two rooms upstairs and a, passage-way were damaged, and a purl inn of the roof was burned, hut tho greater pari of the building escaped damage. Nq books ■»• papers wore s|i,lit or destroyed. The damage, can be repair, cd readily. The promptness with which lhe lire was. reported hv the police ami the i,uie.k arrival ol' tin, Fire Hrigado, under Deputy-Superintendent Robertson, undoubtedly wived a serious outbreak. The "Quick Lunch" rooms on the ground floor received sumo of the waler which the brigade need, to quench the (ire in the upslaiiv portion of the building. The premises are owned by I.lkCity Council, and are insured for .C2MIO •-Hit! risk being held by all lhe insurance coinpa.nies in Wellington. The fur-, nilnrv and office effects in Messrs. Field, Luetic, and Sladilcn's offices are covered by a. policy for .tIOO.
