SURF ASSOCIATION

NEW GOVERNING' BODY POBMED. On Thursday evening delegates appointed from the various surf and life-saving clubs operating on the beaches in the Wellington province met at the Y.M.C.A. to discuss a proposal to form an association for the welfare of the work. Those present were:—\Voiser Bay (Messrs. C. T. Bell, P. l'yecroft, W. Davidson); Island Bay (Messrs. O. S. Hill and It. E. Small); Maranui (Jlr. Ralph Smith); Paekakariki (Messrs. J. Poster and W. C. Collier). The Lyall Bay and Evans Bay Clubs were not represented. Mr. G. S. Hill was appointed chairman of the meeting, and Mr. W. C. Collier temporary honorary secretary. It was resolved that an association be formed, to.be known as tho Wellington Surf Association, having the following objects:—(a) To promote the study and practice of life-saving as taught by the Koval Life Saving Society, (b) To assist the authorities' in enforcing the laws governing the conduct of snrf-batbers and natrons of seaside resorts, '(c) To frame rules for the control of surf clubs operating within the boundaries of the Wellington province, and regulations forUhe conduct of inter-club competitions, galas, etc. (d) Generally to act ns a.governing body and legislative medium for surf life-saving clubs.

It was decided that steps be taken to confer with the Canterbury Surf Association, to form a Dominion governing.council.

Tile action of, the Canterbury Surf Association in .publishing m their handbook a form of resuscitation of the apparently drowned other than -Unit approved and adopted by the Royal Life having Society was discussed, and it was decided to advise I hat body thai this association would take no steps to adopt any oilier but the approved method of resuscitation. A sub-committee was scf up to frame rules and regulations for submission to the next meeting cof delegates.
