MESOPOTAMIA AND COTTON
Will Mesopotamia, now rescued from tin. blighting control of Turkey, add liberally to the world's supply ot cotton/ The country will; be a producer ot gram and fruit on a big scale; that is beyond doubt. There is also goud reason lor believing that it can yield large quantities of cotton. We have received trom a well-known firm of merchant shippers in Manchester particulars of a series ot experiments that have just been carried out to test the possibilities ot the soil and climate for cotton growing. Jhe experiments were conducted under the auspices of the Agricultural Department of the Expeditionary force, ami they have given results mat are,exceedingly encouraging. .luu'g.'ng from these experiments Hie fvne. of cotton that willthrive best is Middling American Upland, for which there is in ordinary limes an immense demand. The specimens actually produced are described as "fairlv long" in staple, of good colour, and of high ginning percentage, while the amount of the yield per acre was exceedingly liberal.—"Times" Trade Sup-
