Lord Milner, in a speech,, said that it would !)()■ impossible to continue the Empire except on a basis of absolute equal partnership. He was not afraid of the future constitutional equality of the Dominions and Britain, though he admitted that it would be a difficult and complicated matter for adjustment. It was inevitable. .
Mr. M'Pherson (Victoria) approved of reciprocal preference. He pointed out that the New York shipping rates to Australia undercut the British. Australia was anxious to trade with Britain, but South America was quoting steel at fifty per cent, lower prices.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
