RECLASSIFICATION
PUBLIC SERVICE LIST GAZETTED. The reclassification list of the Public Servico has now been issued in a Gazette supplement dated July 5. As far as practicable all salaries have been made payable as from April 1, 1919. In some Departments the provision of a free house instead of charging rent has been considered in connection with the increase of salary. In (he Department of Agriculture, inspectors of stock, who ! have hitherto provided their own means of locomotion, havo been relieved from this expenditure, which is now assumed by the Department. No regra'ding of school inspectors, has been possible, aa tho scale, provided in tho Education Act, ISIU, has not yet been amended by Parlinment. In the list' all war bonuses are consul' cred to have been incorporated in the K.lary provided. Hi the preparation of the regvading it has been contemplated that section 24 of the Public Servico Act may be applied' in the event of any appreciable increase or reduction in tho cost of commodities. This section prir. rides for a proportionate increase or reduction in salaries being made by resolution of Parliament.
