The monthly meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children (Hutt and Petone branch) was held in the Mayor's Room, Petone, on Tuesday. Tho nurse's retort was as follows:—Number of visits paid to homes, 17; number of visits paid to nurse's home, 14; number of new eases, 22; mothers shown how to prepare humanised milk, 6; adults visiting rooms, 200; babies visiting rooms, 108; cases under supervision, 79; expectant mothers, 2. Two sets of twins are among the new rases, nil four babies doing well,, and the nurse has had a very satisfactory end encouraging month. The new permanent Plunket nurse will commence duty on July U. A very excellent entertainment was given last evening at (he Returned Soldiers' Club by Mr.Thco Tresize and a party of professional performers, for which arrangements had been made by Mr. Callender, secretary and manager of the club. A large number of returned soldiers and their friends were present. Mr. Tresize and Mrs. Malcolm gave an exhibition of a iazz dance which was received with much applause, ns also was a trio by Mr. and Miss Cooper and Mr. Gelhor, comprising the violin, 'cello, and piano. Mrs. Green's singing was •ulso greatly appreciated, and Mr. Nelson's contributions to the programme met with much applause. Every item of the programme was encored, and the general opinion was that the entertainment was quite one of the nest yet held at the club. Supper was provided. Wedding at St, Peter's Church. Tho wedding (ook place in St. Peter's Church on Wednesday afternoon of Miss Gladys Danby, younger daughter of Mr. A. A. S. Danby, of Oriental Bay, to tho Eev. Maurice Ivompthorne, vicar of Ashhurst, son of tho Von. Archdeacon and Mrs. Keinpthorne, of Nelson. The ceremony, which was fully choral, was performed by tho 'bridegroom's father, assisted by the Eev. Arnold Keinpthorne, brother of the bridegroom. Tho bride, who was given away by her father, vrore a gown of white georgette, over pale pink crepe do chine, trimmed with silver, and a long veil, which had been worn by members of the bridegroom's family. She carried a shower bouqnot. The bridesmaids were Miss Edna Danby and Miss Hilda Eawnsley, who wore frocks of cream net, over silk, with bands on the skirt of pale blue and pink charmese respectively, and black tullo hats. They carried bouquets of froesias and violets. The Eev.- Mr. M'Farland was the best man and Mr. G. Kcmpthornn groomsman. After tho ceremony a re ception was held at the residenco of Mr. and Mrs. Danby at Oriental Bay, which was attended toy n number of the Wellington clergy, including the Bishop of Wellington and Mrs. Sprott, as well as friends and relatives. Mrs. Kempthorne, mothor of the bridegroom, was present. Tho bride's travelling dress was of blue cloth, with black furs, and a hat of light blue straw, witli a wreath of pink roses. St. Mary's Homes. The report given'l>y (ho matron at the monthly meeting of St. 'Mary's Guild, which controls-St. Mary's Homes' at Karori. stated that there nrc thirty-one girls in tho home, and twenty-three children in the Duncun Cottage, and that the health of all is good. Tho Spinsters' chequo has already been answerable for two heaters being, installed—one in the bil.liard room and the utlier in tho workshop where tho knitting is carried on. A certain amount will be kept in hand to .pay for the' extra gas used in this way. During the past cold weather no fewer than 47 men h.lvo been accommodated each night, though the actual space -is only sufficient for 32. This does not include, casual, meals .supplied, either. The committee have been uuch strengthened in their endeavours upon receiving high praise from Brigadier-General Richardson, who advises all and sundry, "When in doubt help the hostel."

Mr. Hugo Cunliffe-Owen, the biggest manufacturer of., tobacco Roods' in Great Britain, and .vice-president, of the American Tobacco Company, recently married in Dudley, Mass'., .Miss Helen Elizabeth Oliver, of Now York, .Ha gave his brido a 4.000,000 dollar cheque as a bridal gift. It is understood the brido is wealthy in her own right, ■ Her husband is tho son of Sir Philip Cunlilte-Owen, of England. The plans for the wedding were kept very quiet, and only became known when (ho marringo license .was obtained two days before the ceremony. The Australian writer ivo knew years ago as Franeio Elmes died recently in London of influenza (says a Sydney paper). She had married in England, and was Mrjs. Fitzgerald Fawkner. Two children aro left. The "British Australasian" is now making public, appeal for a Frances Fitzgerald Fawkner memorial, which will take the form of n permanent fund to bo used for.tho assistance of hard-up Australians and Maorilanders in London. Mrs. Fawkner's mother is living in Melbourne, and there is a great sadness among the Australian friends of the bright little penwotnan.
