Owing to the shortago of food supplies In the Islands it has been decided to dispatch the Taluno for Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa on Monday next. This means that tho Talune's trip to Wellington this wcol:end to load for Auckland has been cancelled. The Union Company arc endeavouring to arrange for another vessel to load for Auckland PATEENA'S NEW RUN. The Fateena, which iB at present undergoing engine repairs, is to bo placed in tho direct running between WclPngton and Onehunga in order to relieve the pressure on tJio railway between Wellington and Auckland. It is hoped that she -will be in readiness to leave for Onehunga direct on Monday morning, but this depends upon whether the repairs are completed in time. . THE SUFFOLK. Tho Federal-Shire liner Suffolk weut up from the Otago Heads on Monday afternoon, and dropped anchor in the stream at Port Chalmers. Tho health officer admitted the vessel to pratique. There has been no further sickness on board. Tho temperatures of the crow, have been taken every morning since the vessel .was placed in quarantine. Tho Suffolk colnmenccd discharging at Port Chalmers yesterday. Owing to the delay the vessel -will not reach Wellington until about July 21.

KOUTUNUI FOR GISBORNE. Tho Koutunui arrived hero yesterday from Gisborne. Messrs. Johnston and Co. advise that tho vessel iB to be dispatched at noon on Saturday for Giuoornc, and that sho will receive cargo for tho East Coast port to-day.

PORT HACKING WITH TROOPS. Advico has been received that the Port Hacking left tho United Kingdom on July 4 with over eight hundred returning troops on board. The vessel is to call at Lyttelton first, where she is duo on August 14.

RIMUTAKA FOR LONDON. Tho Rimutaka left tho Glasgow Wharf at noon yesterday bound for London, hut she was detained in tho stream owing to her complement being short. She eventually left at 3 p.m.

NGAHERE'S SMART TRIP. Tho Ngahere. made a very smart trip to Greymouth from Wellington this week. She left hero at 1 11.45 a.m. ou Wednesday, and was tied up at Greymouth at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, doing the journey in the good time of 243 hours. The vessel generally takes between 26 and 28 hours. The Ngaherc is to loud at Greymouth today, and from tho Grey' port she will bo dispatched to Tokomani Bay direct, where sho will unload part of her cargo. She then comes to Wellington to discharge the balance, being duo here about the end of next week. KARU, STELLA, AND CALM. Tho movements of boats managed by Mr. E. G. 'F. Zohrab were reported as folbw yeievday:— The Karu iB due from Lyttclton this morning, and is to aisl for New Plymouth to-morrow. Tho Stella is due from Dunedm to-day, and on completion of discharge will soil for Westport to-morrow. Tho Calm is due from Wanganui today, and will load for Duuedin, Timaru, and Lyttelton, probably sailmg this evening. PAKEHA RETURNS. Having loaded at Lyttelton; Timaru, and Bluff, the Pakeha- arrived here yesterday from the last-mentioned nort to iill up. Sho iB set down to sail for London, via Panama, ou Tuesday next. KIGOMA DUE' TUESDAY. A wireless message from the master of the Kigoma, received yesterday, stated that lie expected to reach Wellington early on Tuesday next. The Kigoma has a draft of returning soldiers on board, and on their disembarkation sho is to proceed to Australia to load. •THE WAIRUNA. Advice has been received that'the.Union Company's new steamer Wairuna, is due at San Francisco, from Antofagaeta, on July 16, and will load at the Oalifornian port for Auckland, Sydney, and MelDourne. . The latest .cable advice regarding the Luokenbach steamer Western Comet, Ifliich is coming from Australia to Auckland ancr Wellington to l«ad for New York and Boston, states that she is expected to leave Sydney for Auckland on Saturday, and is duo at Auckland on July 17. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain J.. Rankino has rejoined tho Kamona, and Captain T. B. Sewell has come ashoro for orders. Mr, P. J. Young, second engineer of the Kamona, has left the vessel, and his place has been taken by Mr. W. A. Cairns. Mr. W. Campbell, third engineer of the Mararoa, has signed off sick. Mr. Ernest E. Chaffer, manager in Sydney for Huddo-rt-Pdrker, Ltd., died at hia residence, Mosman, on June 22 from pnoumouia. Ho had been ailing for some weeks. The late Mr. Chaffer had been associated with Huddart-Parker for a period of 35 years. Joining first as an ofllee boy, ho worked his way through all important branches of tho company to ,the position of manager. For some years ho.was attached to tho providoring department of the company. He was well known, and highly respected in shipping circles.
