THE STRANDED EXILES
' MANUKA SAILS PRINZESSIN TO TAKE 270 MORE (By Telcgraph--Press Association-Copyright Sydney, July 9! Tho Manuka sailed at .7 p.m. There are three hundred passengers on board. (Rec. Ju2v 9, 9.25 p.m.) • Sydney, July 9.' .The steamer Prinzessin, sailing at tho end of tho week, will be able to accommodate '270 of the stranded New Zeu/landers—Press Assn. . [The Prinzessin was sent over from New Zealand to Australia to pick up a cargo of coal from Newcastle. At the same time tha.t the trip was arranged tho Government contracted with thb Overseas Shipping Committee in AVellington to charter the ship for the voyago back to this country, the object being to use tho ship, if need arose, for tho carriage back to Now Zealand of stranded New Zea'andcrs. If no complications arise in Australia all tho accommodation in tho ship will bo used to bring these unhappy - people home. It--was hoped that there would be no need tor the Prinzessin to bring these passengers, and if the Moeraki had got. out of Sydney there would have been very fewNew Zealanders to come home. It is probable that. there are more than 270 of them now, but it was generally -understood that the Prinzessin had accommodation for rather more than this.number if somo of the 1 emergency accommo ; dation used for tho troops on the voyage out were used for male passengers, leav< ing tho permanent accommodation foi women and children.]
