FOOD VALUES OF NEW ZEALAND FISHES. By Telegraph-Press Association, Dunedin, July. 9. Tho Hon. G. M. Thomson announced at tho Otago Instituto last night that two of tho grants for research work, made by tho New Zealand Institute, would conio to Otago, and Professor Malcolm would lake up tho research into tho food values of New Zealand fishes, -tho Hon.-G. M. Thomson spoke of the economic value of whalo feed, and mentioned incidentally that whalo iced, which wa? so usually abundant, had disappeared from these waters from January to the middle of November last year. The feed had ilisappearcd again this March, and had not been seen since; tho suggestion being that those disappearances are connected with fish migration; consequently it will affect tho fish supply generally.
