WELLINGTON BOWLING CENTRE

APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY.

A meeting of tho Wellington Bowling Centre was held last night, Mr. George Hendry, president, occupying tho chair. Mr. li , . Meadowcroft (Kelburn . Club) said that he had been instructed by his club to move for' the- reinstatement of the inter-club competitions known as the "Junior Pennants." He moved accordingly, and urged that the tourney ought to lie restored, to encourage new players of the gamo, and so to benefit bowling generally. Mr. H. Mayer seconded the motion, suggesting that the matches be restricted to one rink' from every club. Mr. G. Allport raised the objection to the motion oil the ground that no notice had been given of it, eo that delegates had not had opportunity of consulting their clubs. Ho moved-that the' motion bo held over until next.meeting. His view was taken by several delegates. Mr.. Meadowcroft said that ho would have no objection to deferring the motion to next meeting, and this was agreed to. It was resolved that the club levios for the coming season be tho same as for last season.

Tho principal business of the meeting was the appointment of a secretary and consideration of a motion by . Mr. Meadowcroft that tho new secretary be paid a fixed salary, and that the secretary be not a dolegatq from any club.. After brief discussion- Mr. Meadowcroft's motion was defeated. Mr. Meadowcroft then moved that the secretary be a paid officer, but ehould be chosen from the members of tho committeo The only payment proposed was the same as that previously given as honorarium to the former secretary (twentyfive guineas), and it was urged by several members that it was not an amount large enough to induce a man to accopt tho position under tho style of a paid official.

Mr. Meadowcroft's motion was defeated, and it was- agreed that the secretary 1)0 appointed on the same conditions as formerly—an .honorary officer. The only nomination for. the position was Ihat of Mr. S." Underwood, and as ho accepted nomination ho was duly appointed.
