The number of reiumed soldiers on the Repatriation Department's register now ■totals 53,824; • This includes, 27,1511 men who have returned Ui the Dominion sincu the beginning of the year. Demobilisation curds are now held by the district :c----patrialion officers as follow:— Auckland, 8817; Wellington, 11,191 m Canterbury, JliO-1; Otago, SU7S. ToUl, 30,695. A further 3-13 men sought, financial assistance to enable thou' to siurt in business, and .731 applied lor grants for furniture and tools of triwe. etc. The amounts being paid out by M various boards and committees slum- a large increase.
