The 'provision of further' berthage- accommodation at the port was the subject of a report by the .harbourmaster. Uptaiu'H. H. Sergeant, to the Auckland Har< hour Board on Tuesday. Captain Sergeant made tho following recommendations:— That the Central Wnarf remain l-h same length as at presi-.t, and that the additional 400 ft. which it ,-,vas intended to add to that wharf be added to the Queen s Wharf.' The arrangement would then give 1500 ft. on the eastern sido of tho Queens Wharf and 1200 ft. on the western Blue. That an additional 400 ft. bo ad<Ud to -tho proposed now Hobson Wharf, .making ISOOt't. berthage on the, eastern side aud 1600 ft. on the western side. These alterations would.add enormously to tho berthage accommodation, ami tho additional 400 ft. on the Queen's Wharf and new Hobßon Wharf would give deep water berths without much- additional dredging. The present Queen's ''Wharf would accommodate only three large steamers of, cay, 550 ft. in length, whereas the proposed addition would enable five large ..vessels of tho same length to bo bortneu. The addition to the new Hobson-, Wharf I would sivc two additional berths for vessels of 400 ft. in length. This arrangement would bring tho Hobson, and.
