MAORI MISSION
REPORT ON THE WOKK. A report dealing with tho work of the Maori Mission in the diocese of Wellington was submitted to the Anglican Synod yesterday. Tho past year, stated the report, had been a disastrous ono, tho mission haviue suffered heavily by the deaths of two of its keen workers. As a result it was found necessary to appeal to both the Auckland and Wainpu d'ouiw" '"■•• help. Auckland diocese was shorthanded, however, but the ii,shui> u< Waiapu was endeavouriug Jo assist the Wellington staff, which had been reduced to three Maori clergy and two Englieh superintendents. From a financial .standpoint the year had been the best the mission had experienced, there being a credit balance of l'C2. Tho special offertory realised X3SS, which was the largest on record. Subscriptions and donations and contributions through parishes showpd a slight decrease; but the half-crown fund had proved a (treat success. Maori contributions had fallen from .£212 in (ho previous year to ,£123, but, in the circumstances, this was .only natural. The expenditure during the year amounted to .£1579. The report concluded by emphasising that the great need of the mission was men b carry on the work. i
