HUTT RIVER BOARD

Tho monthly meeting of the Hutt River Board was held last evening. There were present:—Messrs. H. Baldwin (in the chair), Willoughby Knight, and M, W. Welch.

overseer's report stated that there had lioen a flight rise in tho river, and he had been compelled to abandon snagging operations in-tho meantime. The work of cutting down the trees on the stop-bank was 'proceeding steadily. During tho month about 90 loads of wood had .been delivered. He thought that mora wood could be sold if tho hoard could arrange to cut the wood into short lengths. As requested by the board ho had had a rial run with a motor truck, and results had been most satisfactory. The usual fencing work and repairs had been carried out during tho month.

The Hutt Shingle Company applied to hava a deviation of tho existing railway lino to the beach made, and also to secure tho solo rights of using tho beach for three years. It was decitled to hold the mattof over until tho members of tho ■board had made an inspection of the lino of the proposod deviation. Saturday morning next was fixed as the day for tho inspection, to bo made.

With reference to the snrphm of wood, ft was decided that tho manager in charge of'{bo wood depot at Tliorndon be writton to "giving- particulars of wood for sale.

i't was decided that Mr. Kershaw, the board's overseer, be instructed to go down to Greymouth and report on dredge machinery suitable for getting shingle from the Hutt River-bed.
