CLASSES

Tho Wellington Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Show was opened yesterday afternoon by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke). The show is being held this year in the wool store of Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., Thorndon Quay, and although sojnowhat out of the lino of traffic, the ibuiildimr is well suited for the display of bird*, being-roomy and well lighted: There is an excellent exhibition of birds, tho poultry classes, especially utility birds, being well represented. The pigeons form a very strong class, and the canaries include every variation of songster.

Mr. and Mrs. Luke wore received by Mr. E. Gallichaii, in the unavoidable obfence of the president ,'Mr. Curric), and the officers of the society.

Mr. Luke, in opening the exhibition, raid ho desired to congratulate the club on the fine show of birds. The poultry industry in Now Zealand, lie thought, was capable of making greater progress. On behalf of the City Council and the citizens he welcomed the exhibitors to Wellington, and trusted the show would prove successful. The Government was* interested in the poultry industry as one T'uie means of providing work for .the returned disabled soldiers, and no doubt the Government would render assistance in every direction. Mr. Luke then declared the show open. The Prize List. The judging took place yesterday afternoon and tho winners were as follow :—
