■ LORD RAYLEIGH, SCIENTIST. London, July 1. Lord Rayleigli is dead.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. TThe lato Lord Rayleigli (tho third Baron), who was 77 years of age, was a distinguished physicist, and the author of a work on the Theory of Sound and a number of scientific papers. He was scientific adviser to Trinity House from 1800, and held various professional positions.! SIR JOHN BRUNNER, London, July 1. Sir John Brunner is dead, aged 77 — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [Sir John Brunner was chairman of the great alkali manufacturing firm of Brunner. Mond, and Co. Ho and Ludwig Mind established the business in 1873. at Norwich, and tho manufactory became tho largest alkali works in the world. Ho was a liberal benefactor, and look a considerable part in public affairs, especially in reference to education and labour questions.] MR. E. W. POSBERY. Sydney, Julv 2. Mr. E. W.
