THE OUTLOOK IN IRELAND
ACCORDING TO THE NEW CHIEF SECRETARY SINN FEINISM ON THE WANE Bj TelecraDh-Preaa Association-Oopyrigh* New York, June 27. The New York "World's" correspondent at Dublin interviewed Mr. J. I. Maepherson, Chief Secretary for Ireland. Tho correspondent asked. "Does not the Administration wait until the laat moment before suppressing popular meeting?, and is thus compelled to disperse the populace with military?" Mr. Macpherson- answered: "Sometimes. Although that is unfortunate; but these meetings are certain to be masked bj seditious speaking. We do not suppress meetings at which we are assured twitftious utterances will not be made. The Orange lodges do not indulge in seditious speaking or advocate murder and outrages. People are not molested if thev obey the law. Ireland's material prosperity was never before so good. The Sinn Fein movement is waning. I believe in Home Rule, but the Sinn Feiners demand an Irish Republic. The Home Rulo Act which will come before Parliament six months after Peace does not seem to be popular in Ireland. I believe conditions in Ireland are better, and there seems to be a desire to proceed toward reform on constitutional lines."— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
