SWINSON CHALLENGE CUP. ' Mr. W. Hornig' presided at the weekly meeting of the Management Committeo of the Wellington Rugby Union lield last evening. There' were present; Messrs. W. W. Cook, J. N. Millard, E. Perry, J. Lnndon, G. Jackson, H. Buck, E. H. Ward, ,T. Prendcville, and the secretary (Mr. T. H. Jones).
Tho Deforces' Association having intimated its desire to have the appointment of referees for cup and other matches in its own hands, it, was decided to hold tho matter over for further consideration, Mr. John Swinson offered a silver cup for senioi' competitions, conditions being left to the union to arrange. It was decided that the samo lie a challengo cup (not to be won outright), and be awarded to tho .senior champions. A'hearty- vote of thanks was nccorded Mr. Swinson for his generous and sportsnianliko action. Tho usa of the Athletic: Park was granted to tho Wellington College for August 25, 27, and 29 for the college tournament.
The transfer of A. M'Carlio from War Expenses Club (junior team) to tho Athletic Club (senior team) was approved. Tho transfer of M. Toogood (Old Boys' Club) to the Wellington Football Club (senior team) was also approved. Tho use of No. 2 ground Athletic Park for Thursday was granted tho State Advances Oflice for the annual match with the Land and Income Tax Department. Tho Lower Hutt Borough Council wroto granting tho union permission,to cliargo admission to tho Recreation Ground on not more than six Saturdays (luring the current football season.
Owing to the altered train arrangemont the junior • representative match with Wairarapa fixed for Saturday lias been postponed. Nelson Pootball Union wrote asking for tho visit of a Wellington Ii team, and it was decided to.reply that it would bo impossible to send a team this, season. In'connection with tho Appointment of referees. for representative inter-provin-cial matches, it was decided that tho 'local Appointment Board submitff ur nam'es to tho Wellington Eugby Union for submission to the union concerned. Attention was called to tho fact that under the restricted railway timetable the fipccial 2.15 p.m. football tram iO I'ctoiie is cut out. ■_ Senior championship'fixtures for Snturduv, July 12, were made as follow:— Peione v.
