9 FORECAST AND SUMMARY AT 4 P.M. YESTERDAY. Present indications are for westerly to south-westerly winds, strong to gale. Weather cloudy to overcast, rain probable generally, with sleet and hail in parts, snow oil highor levels of the South Island. Colder conditions following, and a rising barometer everywhere soon., A westerly disturbance continues to hold sway, and the weather has proved cloudy and unsettled, with rain in many parts, especially on the ,Wcst Coast of tiie South Island, where the rivers are high.
