Christchurch, June !M. The Canterbury Branch of "the New Zealand Engineers, firemen, and .Cleaners' Association resolved ■to protest against the action of the Mlway Department in dispensing with the services of a number of casuals, some of whom have large families to support; also tho action of the Department in retaining the. services of men who can retire on superannuation, this action- being unfair to men who have returned from activo service. \
