CITY AND SUBURBAN TRAMS
Sir,—A recent Tramway Committee report stated in reply to Councillor Wright that they could not recommend tho diverting of more trams via Cuba Street on account principally of tho fact that Vivian Street was a single track, and thereby the time taken would .be longer, ami further that it was not in the best interests of the service, etc. This hardly seems fair to the Cuba Street business people, the large number of people employed there, and the public generally. Cuba Street, it must be admitted, is a good source of revenue to the City Council, is a very important shopping quarter, is tho centre of the' city, and i 3 therefore rightly entitled to the very best of tram 6ervice. No one can say that it receives its full share of trams now, and tho public ought to see to it that it fares better. The Vivian Street track could advantageously be duplicated in the interests of everybody, and wouldn't Brooklyn and Aro Street citizens appreciate a connection with Wi'.lis Street, say at Ingestre Street, whereby they could get right out to'our bays without having to change trams at Manners Street and have the pleasure of standing all the way as is invariably the case at present? ihis is ft most important matter, and the. public would most, assuredly appreciate anything iu the way of an improvement. Our new councillors, all men of undoubted abilitv, woukl earn much thanks by seeing to this. In conclusion, might I sav Cuba Street never sees a Lyall 13a? or"lsland Bay tram; why?—l am, etc., or DA KEENLY INTERESTED.
