COLLEGE GOVERNORS
Tlie Board of Governors of Wellington College and Girls' High Mcliool met yesterday morning. Mr. W. P. Ward was re-elected chairman of tho board. Memlid's present wore: Sir E, Clibbes, Prolessor Easterfield, and Messrs. AY. 11. P. Barber, W. Allan, T. Forsyth, and W. 11. Field, M.P. The secretary reported a credit; teniico at the hank of i! 3825 14s. 4d. Payments requiring to be made for both colleges totalled JJIBO9 ss. Pees outstanding were for the -Boys' College. J1277il lis. Bd.; for the Girls', JJ2271 lis. Id. Miss M'Lean, principal of the Girls College, reported (hut nursing classes wwo beiug established at the college. Two hundred pupils had signified their wish to join. Mr.'F. Martvn Kenner, on behalf of the stall' of the Boys' Cullckc, forwarded t'oi the consideration of the board a pamphlet entitled "The Status and_ Pay of Secondary School Teacheis iti New /eaiftud." Mr. Kenner wrote Ih.'it a mectiug' of the staff had approved the recomuiendntions for improved salaries and a grading scheme as set forth in t.lio pamphlet, and had decided to ask the board whether it could add its approval... The chairman observed that the propo als contained in the pamphlet would re(inirb some study before lhey could be discussed. The meeting,, iherci'ot-s appointed ii committee, eonsisling of Sir E. Gihbes, Professor Easterfield, Mr. Fur<.yth, and the chairman, lo consider the pamphlet ami report lo next meeting. Mr. Ward said that the board was certainly sympathetic towards any scheme for raising the plains and salary of secondary school teachers.
