- MANAWATU

It has been decided to form a branch of the Y.M.C.A. in Shannon. Mr. Tremewan has been elected secretary, and a large provisional committee has been set up. Messrs. Fargler, Gunning, Taylor, and Revs. Wheeldon and Walker were elected a sub-conunittee to ascertain what support could be obtained, the amount required being about .£ISOO. A special appeal will be made . for donations of ioO.

The JJanawatu Golf Club have secured the services of J. A. Clements, the golf professional.

The shooting season in tho districts surrounding Palmerston has so far been fnij-lv-successful. In the Rangitikei district especially hares have been seen. in great number, one party • recently bagging 26. Ducks, too, lire fairly plentiful. and some good shooting has been, reported among them and other game in' the district. A . record number (25) of deer license has been taken out, being twice as many as for any other season ill the history of., the local Acclimatisation Society. Sambur doer abound in the swamn land along tho coast, nnd several head are reported to have, been taken this-season in tho Manawatu and Rangitikei districts. -

Nodine, late of Wellington, for very mnny years, well-known residents of Te Horo. .'The' Nodine family are. residing in England, and influenza was the cause of: tlioir demise. - .... Dr. Mackenzie, of Levin, paid a visit to Waikanae recently, and met the parents, and gave them an outline of his scheme for dental treatment' of school children.
