INCR.EASE'DISCUSSED,
Councillor I!.-A. Wright ■pointed out at Thursday's meeting of.the City Council that the expenditure, of the Zoo during the past Year was i.'3653, and the receipts .61250' - Tie did not knoiv that the time hud arrived when they should mark time over the Zoo, particularly ill legard to the purchase of new" animals. Tie knew that the upkeep of the Zoo had Sine up will) the rest of things, but the loss was a-very .serious one... . Councillor Ai. F. Luokie pointed out that the Zoo was-an educational institution second perhaps in importance only to the libraries. He pointed.out that between 6fl,<Xlfl and 70,009 people had visited the Zoo during the year, .which must hove meant considerable revenue to the tramways. • they did not charge for admission on Sundays. Councillors Chapman and Frost expressed surprise at Mr.. Wright's attitude. the latter stating that when Councillor Wright was a morcilier. of the committer! he was a most enthusiastic supporter of. the Zoo. Councillor Wright: I am so still.
