She went to Auckland, but : defendant had no home for her, and slio had to live with his,mother in a seven-roomed' hou'=e, in' which eivht other members of the family resided. The family were not kind to Mrs. Veart. 'and she had a very unhappy time. She remained there three weeks, during whxh time she did not receive a penny from her husband, and she appealed to him for assistance, slating that she could not remain under such conditions, and would have to return to'her mother's home iii Wellington. The defendant said that she could go where she liked. Mrs. Veart then had to return to her mothes in Wellington, .with whom she nad been living without any support from the defendant. In'answer to His Worship, the defend dsutt said that he was a sailor employed with 'Northern Steamship ".'ompuiiy After asking Mrs. Veart a few ques. t'ions, His Worship made an order for the accused to pay l)(ls. per week maintenance, and also ordered him to pay J!10 past maintenance at the rate of ,ii per month. Defendant was also (rdered to pay costs. .£2 25., and to report to Hie Auckland police any change in address or occupation.
