Cable advice received in Dunedin states that the Ocean Transport Company, tho Japanese name of which is Taigou ICaiun Ka-bushiki Kaisha, has entered on a freight-cutting war with the N.X.K. and Osaka Companies. WAIMANA DUE MONDAY. The.Shaw, Savill and Albion Line steamer Waimana arrived at Auckland from London on Monday' mornine with troops, mails, and cargo. It is nearly live yeare sinco ehe visited Auckland, in October, 1914, when she tool; part, of the Main Body to Egypt. -Since then she has done a considerable amount of war work, principally trooping, nearer Europe. On her present voyage she left London on May 10 and arrived at Colon on May 28. For the first four days after leaving England sho experienced stormy weather, with a high sea. This caused her to roll coneiderably, which did not add to the comfort of the large number of passengers ehe was carrying. After tho fourth, day l.he weather improved and remained flue until sho was' nearin? the Now Zealand coast. A day's stay was-made at Colon, where the. troops'landed and were entertained in a lnTgc-heerted manner by tho residents. After taking in hunker coal Ehe sailed again on May 25 and cleared the Panama the same day. A stop wan made at Pitcairn Island, where fruit was purchased and letters taken on board for delivery. WAITOMO FItOM CALCUTTA. The Waitomo, from Calcutta, arrived at Auckland on Tuesday. There was nothing unusual in her voyage, fair weather being experienced. She has about 2000 tons of cargo for Auckland, including jute and oil. She is to leave Auckland today for Wollington, Lyttelton. iind Dun : cdin. ANTIOPE FOR ENGLAND. The barque Antione, now , discharging case oil at Auckland, -is expected to sail about the end of next week for Wellington, where sho will difchavjjo the remainder of her cargo. . . OIL OAEGOES. Two largo American schooners are now en route from San .Francisco toDiincdin with cargoes of case oil' for the' Vacuum Oil Company. The first of these is the Lily, which left tho Californian port en April 19, and is now over W days out. The second is the Alvena, which left San Frsunciscb on May 1, and is duo about the end of this month. .
Tho Australian Government, steamer Allstrclange, which loft New York on May 14 for' Lyttelton and Dnnedin, is I/ringing a full cargo of caso '.oil for the Vacuum Oil Company. She is expected to reach Lyttelton at tho end ol this month.

KOROMIKO FROM AUCKLAND. Tho Koromiko left Auckland' early nn Tuesday afternoon for Wellington, and sho. should show up here some time this evening. She has £00 tons of cargo to discharge here. After discharge she proceeds to Lyttelton and Timaru to' load back to Auokland.

No new developments in connection with tho stranding of the Kowhai on the spit at Farewell were reported by the Union Company last night. Captain Farmar, formerly of the Port Albany, is now in command of tho fteamer Port Pirie, which is due here next month from London.
Tho Kauri nailed from Melbourne on Friday last with a full wheat cargo for Dunedin and Lyttelton. She in due at tho former port to-morrow. During, the past week over half a million feet of becdr timber was railed from the Longwood mill 3 to Bluff for shipment by the steamer Glaucus to Australia. This large order was purchased by a. harvester company and a brushware factory, states the Dunedin "Star." A now steamship company, named the Chinee Pacific! Steam Navigation Company, is about to be formed at Shanghai by QhiiKtio merchants abroad, whidh will lease six 3hips from the China Merchants' Steam Navigation Company for the Pacific trade to carry pasecngers and cargo. Tho charter price is, to be at about £22,000 per month for each. Captain Jostrom, of the four-ma3ted schooner W. H.- Smith, which arrived at. Sydney recently after a passage of 56 days from Eureka, California, stated that from the time [he .vfcssel cleared Eureka until arriving at Sydney the sails were always set, as the winds continued light right throughout the passage. This is a most remarkable event, especially lor .a vessel making a trip from tho Pacific coast to Sydney, where changes of - weather are generally met with. It is understood that a well-known ship, building firm in Scotland are bending all their efforts to complete a couple of linere in four months' time for a London company of shipowners,' who v- ill open a regular line to the Mediterranean at the end of July or early in August. For epecial reasons the British lino must be inaugurated this summer, and the pressure at the yards to complete these ships seems to promise a record m ship construction. The steamer St. Albane, well known in Australia, under tho E. and A. flag, returned to Sydney on May 25, coming from England with troops and war "workero Tho St. Albans was requisitioned by the Imperial Govornmont for transport work, and she has been absent from Sydney for some two years. Durins the interim she has been running chiefly up tho Persian Gulf. Captain Pilcher, K.N.K., ip still in command. The St. Albans, after completing discharge, will bo handed over to the E. and A. Company, and resume running between Sydney, Honir-Kdng, ami Janan, in conjunction with the Eastern.
The British India liner JTowshera- was to leave New York last month for Australia under the auspices of the A. and A. Line. The Nowshcra, like tho Otiro, now in New Zealand waters, is' what is known, as "G" type of standardised vessel. She is of the two-deck, with shelter deck poop, type, built by Messrs. Ifarlsnd and Wolff. She is frSMt. long. 58ft, wide, and 40ft. deep, is 6000 tons cross, 16,000 tons displacement, and 10.800 tons deadweicbt, with a, speed of 13 knots.
