RUGBY CONTROL
MEETING OF- MANAGEMENT •COMMITTEE Tho Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, met lust night, Mr. B. A. Marris presiding. There were also present: Messrs. G. Howe, T. H. Jones, A. C. Kitto, G. A. Mnthicson, 0. A. Slade, awl Dr. Ritchie .Crawford. Recently tho Gisborne Returned Soldiers' Association requested that the disqualification'for life of. Te lieinga, of Mariutake, should be lifted. Te Roinga was suspended thirteen years ago for "kicking an opponent, using obscene limguago to the reforeo and players after being ordered olf, harassing tho rel'ereo from the line, and disgraceful condupt which caused .a general disturbance." Tho Gisborne Returned Association pointed out that the returned soldiers otGisborne, who were desirous of forming a football team, were.anxious to include Te Reinga amongst their- number. As To Reiiij;a had since been on active servico tho association wished to know whether tho New Zealand JJniqn could see its way to; remove his suspension; Air. Slade moved that the suspension be lifted, as ho considered that Te Reinga had been punished sufficiently by.undergoing disqualification for thirteen years. Other members of the committee agreed witli Mr. Slade's, view, and it was decided that the request of the Returned Soldiers' Association 'should be granted. Notification was received from tho Auckland Rugby Union that it was fav-. onrably disposed towards the Wailil Union allowed to affiliate with the Thames Union. , Permission to affiliate was approved. With regard to the appointment of reforees for representative matches, it was resolved; to inform .the various unions that in accordance with rule 3 the unions should' appoint their' own referees ami that the Appointment Board would intervene only ,in tho case of there being, a disagreement betweeiuauy two unions.. Tho Otago Union proposed that Messrs. I". II Campbell, J. Hutchison, and H. P. Sincoclc should, be appointed, as tho Appeal Council,' to., be. located in Dnnedin.. • '• Ths appointments were.approved. The New; Zealand Rugby Referees' Association informed tho .committee that Mr. D. M'lvenzie would.-act as its nominee on the New Zealand Appointment Board. A letter was • received from the New South Wales Rugby Union inquiring if representatives from -the New Zealand Union had been appointed to confer with the New South Wales"and Queensland representatives in regard to matters, affecting the Australasian unions generally. It was decided to postpone consideration of the matter nr\til the next general meeting of 'delegates,, and to ask the. New South Wales TTniojrfor an approximate data for the conferences Mr. ,T. N. Millard wrote resigning his position as a member of the Management Committee. His reason for resigning it as that he was already giving as mucli time as possible to football matters. Mr. Millard's resignation was- accepted, and' Mr. X T. M. Piki, a delegate from the Canterbury Union, was appointed in his stead.
