HELP THE MOTHERS
Sir,—A letter appearing in your columns of Friday, Juno 20, over the 6igua- _ turo ''Sympathetic and Anxious Inquirer," was considered at a meeting of the Mothers' Help Division .held yesterday afternoon. In reply' to the first point raised: ' (1) We cannot see lion , your correspondent can possibly tell what was in the minds of our subscribers, but the whole of the money collected by the division is to be used for the benefit of mothers of little children. (2) There is one fund, but it is subject, to two allocations, i.e., general expenses of tho rest room, or Sirs. Coleridge's scheme for help in the homes. Any subscriber ctesiring to do eo may name to which of these uses he or She desirts the money to go. Where there u> no such specification Hie money will be spent at the jurisdiction of the committee. All money coming in as a direct result of the appeal for help in the homes will, of course, •be used entirely Jin that direction. . . / (3) The financial returns from the rest room will not, it is expected, render it to any great degree self-supporting. Ail charges will be extremely small, and therefore within the reach of all. (4) This is cojigidered purely as matter for the committee, as it is impossible to specify exactly, so much will depend on circumstances. However, it is expected t'hat each whole-time helper will give. 5i full days. , work each week to tho divisiou. (5) We are endeavouring in a very modest way to start a work that is urgently - needed; we will gratefully acknowledge any help extended by your anonymous correspondent, either financially or as a voluntary helper. We have an unpaid branch already at work. But we think that, however doubtful your correspondent may be as to our ability to manage our undertaking, we will persevere along the line we have taken, up, In conclusion, the meeting unanimously decided that in future no notice could be taken of anonymous letters. Inquiries are cordially welcomed, either addressed to the secretory of the division, National Keserve Rooms, l'eatherston Street, or in, the Prees over the signature of fne in?uirer. Thanking you in anticipation,— am, etc., S. DABLING, For the Committee. Wellington, June 23, 1919.
