SIR THOMAS A'BECKETT. Melbourne, June 23. Obituary.—Sir Thomas A'Beckett, formerly Senior-Puisne Judge in VictoriaPress Assii. [The late Judge wag raised to the Bench ill 1886, and had a notable career. In 190G, in recognition of eminent, services, ho received the honour of knighthood, being createjl a Knight Bachelor. He was chosen es a member of the Council of the Melbourne University in 1887, and took considerable interest in the welfare and advancement of that institution during tho many years with wliich he had been connected with it. 'He was a great lover of manly eport. Until -within the last five years ho was fond of a gnnio of tennis, <ind played regularly with friends, his activity Oftentimes putting a test upon men much younger than himself. Able to play the game himself, he was at all times an interested onlooker at important tennis matches, and missed few, if any, games for the Davis Cup played in Melbourne, lie was until comparatively recent .years'" an ardent cyclist, and was also keenly interested in cricket.
