♦ PUBLIC WELFARE BILL. Cape Town, June 19. In the Assembly, the Public Welfare Bill was passed_, the Government withdrawing contentious clauses. The Government also dropped the Enemies Repatriation Bill, Mr. Malan slating that most of the enemy subjects who had been reported as a danger to the State had already been repatriated at their own request—Renter. AMNESTY TO REBELS. Cape Town, June 20. Tho Parliamentary session lias ended. The Bill granting an amnesty to deportees and rebels of 1911 was passed. The Minister of Mines announced the appointment of a- Commission, including the Government Mining, Engineer and representatives of the Chamber of Mines and the Federated Trades and Miners' Union, to investigate the mining crisis. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. BELGIAIUONGO AN OFFICIAL DENIAL. (Rec. June ,21, 1.5 a.m.) • Cape Town, Juno 18. With a view to removing a misunderstanding arising out of certain articles in the Press suggesting that the cession of Belgian Congo was contemplated, tho Governor-General has authorised an official denial that, any negotiations for such a purpose were entered into or contemplated by the Imperial Government.— Aus.-N.Z.
