At last week's show the cbnrge was Is. Od. ]>or day on each of thu four days, while at the last Winter Show the extra sixpence was only charged (in the Wednesday and Thursday. This makes a comparison difficult. The figures give the impression that tho attendance this year was larger than last, and that it comes very near making a record. On Wednesday ("People's" day) the gate receipts wore .3198 Is. lid.—a record—as against .£436 11s. 6d., which was the previous record. On the first day tho; receipts'for this year were .£sl 17s.,'as against .£33 11s. On the Thursday the amount taken wos .£361 19s. 3d., us against .£372 2s. Gil.; while on Friday the totals were £Ha 3s. 3d. as against .£19,5 Bs. Gd. The amount leceived forstands this year was 0!37 195., as against .£23.93. 6d. for the previous vear. Mr. James Wallace, of Palmerston North, sustained painful injuries on Saturday as tho result of a fall from his cycle. Air. Wallace was on., his way to business, and had just turned the corner into Pilzherbert Street, on the other side of the I'itzhorbert bridge, when he collided with a dog, and was thrown heavily on to.tho road. Owing to the nature of his injuries ho wa g unable to rise, and ■Iny on the roadside for nearly an hour before receiving assistance. Ho was (subsequently conveyed to a private hospital, where it was found that he had sustained a dislocated knee. Four competitors tied in the sheep weight-guessing competition held in connection with the Manawatn A. and P. Show, each estimating tho combined weights of the animals at 1731b., the actual weight being 1721b. Moz. They were:, Messrs. T. Hocking (Palmerston North), P. Mungairn (Porirnn), D. BuchaiHiu (Tiakitahuna), and J. Lucas (Glen Oroua). Mr. and Mrs. Buckthought, of Palmerstou North, have received intimation that their son, Sergeaut V. W. Buckthought, D.C.M., will arrive in Palmerston this week. Sergeant Buckthought wits awarded the D.C.M. for conspicuous gallantry in , action. At the recent examination held at Dunedin, Mr. S. Childs, of Pnlmeraton' North, passed the second section for the medical profession. A miniature rifle-shooting match took place at Bulls last week between teams representing the Eangitikoi Defence Bifle Club nnd the Bulls Tennis Club. The Featherston School Committee lias expressed unanimous approval of the Education Board's selection for the vacant hcadmastersliip, and Mr. H. L. Combs, if.A., nf present in charge of tho Fernriuge School, will receive a hearty welcome. The committee recorded appreciation of the highly satisfactory manner ii; which the acting master had discharged his duties.
