CADET TRAINING
A MEETING OF OFFICERS,
A meeting of officers of Group 5 (Wellington Citv and Suburbs) was held at tile Drill Hall, Buckle Street, to consider several matters' connected with cadet training. Cnptain W. M. Bell, Group Commander, presided, and there was a good attendance of officers. Captain Bell explained that he was anxious to develop tho athletic side of the cadet training. Good work was being done in-the special n.c.o. instructional ' classes, and in tho companies generally, and he thought the benefits _o! the training could bo extended by giving the boys an increased interest in the welfare of their units and by developing the competitive. spirit. He suggested that .some tournaments should bo tiromoted. anrl that hat and collar badges should be procured, to distinguish the companies. Captain 801 l also placed several ptlier matters before the meeting. After discussion the meeting set up a committee to arrange a cadet company Rugby tournament, and another committee to direct an association tournament, It. was mentioned that some years ago a Cadet Rugby tournament was held, and that a valuable cup was won outrignt by the Tetone Cadets. Arrangements were approved for., a signallers' competition, to be held in about two months' time, for d cup. It was decided that hat and collar badges should be obtained for tho cadets ol 1 the group, the companies to bo distinguished by numbers. These badges would bo-uniform except for the numbers. Tho meeting also approved of a proposal that hose tops of tho same colours as the puggarees should be added to the Cadet uniforms in the group, in order to smarten tlie appenrance of the companies. The arranging of a Cadet boxing tournament was approved. Captain Bell pointed out that funds would be required for theso purposes, and the meeting approved of a suggestion that a big cadet tournament should bo held later in the year, with military events,' physical training competitions, and sports. Tho funds raised by means of such a tournament would ui'able tho group lo send picked teams of Cadets to compete at tournaments in other centres.
Captain Bell mentioned that owing to congestion in the Drill Hall tho n.c.o.'s training class would bo taken on Wednesdays instead of Thursdays. He hoped toon to be able to allot rooms to company commanders, so that they could carry out their duties more easily, and hold orderly-room parades.
