CONFERENCE OF MAYORS

A CiIItISTCMOKCH PEOPOSAL. The Mavor (Mr. ,T.- P. Imke) received on Tuesday last the following toiegrain from the .Mayor of Uhristchurch (Dr. Thacker):— , .. .. "It has occurred to mo that it would bo beneficial to tho interests of the cities And borough* of Now Zealand, niid thereforo to the Dominion as a whole, if tho Mavors of the cities and - principal boroughs were to meet ill conference and discuss matters of urgency which rof|iliie prompt attention. As several Mayors <uo members of Parliament, I consider that this conferenco should bo held before next session, and should feel honoured if you would bo so good as to attend tho confcrence, which'l proposo should bo convened here about Hie first week of .Tilly (Ist; (o tithl. The principal matters that I propose to lay before the conference for discussion, arc:

(a) The iniquities of our railway services. , , , (b) The inefficient ferry servico between LyHelton and Wellington. (c) Tho housing problem—its finance. (d) Shortage of coal—ite municipal con(e) Concreto roads and arterial highways. (f) Completion of main trunk lines. (g) Hydro-electric developments. (h) Uniformity of motor and oilier li'flflic by-laws. To this Mr. Luke has replied:
