ST. GEORGE'S TOWER AT WESTMINSTER
i Early in the war the great cnmpnuile which is one of the features of Westminster Cathedral mas closed to the public. Possibly the authorities thought; it might be made use of by "hiddenhonders," or that other people might think so. .Recently the tower was again opened, and many visitors London have taken advantage of the. unique facilities which it offers of a bird's-eye view over London. It is a weary climb to the balcony of "Hie tower, but on a clear day it is well worth the trouble. On the work under the dome which crowns the campanile—St. George's Tower is its official title—hundreds of visitors have inscribed their flames, and someone lws discovered among them "E. de Yalcra, 1919." If the autograph is authentic it suggests that the Sinn Fein leader since liis escape from Lincoln Gaol lias paid a visit to the enemy capital. Perhaps this is what gave rise to the report, which ho has formally denied, that negotiations hftvo been going on between him mid the Government.
