HIDES AND TALLOW
Messrs. Abraham an)l Williftms, Ltd., report:—At our sale yesterday we offered a large catalogue of hides and tallow. Tanners, as is now i.uatomary, cleared the bulk of our catalogue at the Government schedule rates, whilst the balance of hides which were lelt again elicited very keen competition at far higher prices than the schedule rates. • Tallow was in keen demand at higher values. We cleared the whole . of our catalogue at satisfactory prices.- Wo 'ltiote'.-.-Ox, heavy,l3d. to 148 d.; ox, medium,' 112 d. to Hid.; <x, light, 13Jd. to 14Jd.j cow, heavy, !)d. to 12Jd.; cow, medium, IOJd. to 13Jd.; cow light. 10Jd. to 133d.;.cut, slippy, and Inferior, Bd. to 13Jd.; bull stag, EJd. to lOd.; yearlings, llfcd. to tSJd.; calf, superior, :7d, to 24Jd.; calf, medium to good, 168. to l8d.; calf, damaged, 9d. to 16d. Tallow, in casks 38s. to 635., in tins 31s. to 61s. id. Sundries: Rabbit skins, 12-i'd.;. horsehair, 15id.. to lid.; tails, per dozen, 9d.
Messrs. Hurray, lloberts and Co., Ltd., reportWo offered a catalogue of 750 hides, to a. good attendance of buyers, competition being the I'eenest seen for some time past, ijl lots of hides which were left by the lanners to go up at auction sold at extremely &ood prices, being Bd. to ijd. per lb. over last Mle. Yep.rlings and heavy calf were in good .demand, at id., and 2d. per lb. advance on last 6ale rates. Tallow sold at an advance oh last sale, all lots being cleared at very satisfactory figures.
The N.Z. Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., report:—There was a good demand for all Kinds of sound hidcH,. the prices realised being slightly better than last sale, especially for light kinds and calfskins. Tallow: A good ('emand was experienced for this _ class of ' product, prices realised being a good advancc on last sale.
Messrs.' Dalgety and. Co., Ltd., report:— For our fortnightly hide Mid tallow salo wo. catalogue;! a good selection of all classes. Tho.=e lines of-hideß which were not selected by tanners at, schedule prices, met with particularly keen competition, and good sound ox and cow hides realised up to 2Jd. above schedule rates. All other lines were in keen domand, and showed a small advance on last sale's rates. Wo topped the sale with the price of 15} d. for a line of 751b. ox. .Horse hides realised up fo 20s. each, 'fallow was „gain in keon demand, and tinned tallow realised the extraordinarily high price of 48s. 6d. per cwt. i Messrs! Levin and Company, Ltd., report:—We submitted a fair-sized catalogue to a full bench of tanners and exporters. . Tlio bulk of the lots comprising our catalogue were allocated to the tanners at Government schedule prices. The lots not selected by tanners were submitted to auction. Competition was exceedingly keen, with the result that all lots offered were sold, -uper <x sold at Id. per lb. above the Government schedule prices, whilst kips and inferior sorts Bold readily- at an advance of Id. to 3d. upon last sale's rates. Lno lot of calf fetched 24id. at auction, which is 6Jd. abovo the Government maximum prices.
