MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
,Tlie Mayor (Mr. S. Stone! presided, over the fortnightly- meeting of the Miramar Borough Council held last evening. Thero were present: Councillors-E. J. Barnett, J. Hicks, E. Collie,'. 8.,P.-Gardener, .H. K. Robsrtshnw, and Mrs.. MTicar. r_.-W.illi respect-to-tho suggested alteration' of-the Miramar. tram service,- tho tramway traffic- manager, wrote recommending tho '.following- alterations: Miramar, ...dep... 6.55, -.-7.16. 7.26, 7.51, 8.21 a.ni. The-. 7,26 -a.m. ear from Lambton Station to he put forward to 7.11 a.m. The.manage): of the-Gas Company to bo approached in the meantime with .'the object of getting; their working hours to fall into line with-the alteration-in the time-table. The council adopted the recommendation.-; - .-■ • v i ■•Mr. K. D.- Crawford wrote complaining of.tho action of some youths-who, he-al-leged,,considered it their- duty when run-jiing-a paper-chase to distribute as much paper on public and private property- as was possible, in the short spaoe of time at their disposal-,'. "The exercise,'' wrote Mr. Crawford, "which I always .understood was the. principal portion .of it paper-chase. run, 'seems, to 'bo entirely ■ignored in this.cnse,.and one ..would ai-. ■most be led to tliink.thnt these youngsters ..werei trying to/keep tip the price of paper by tlio extravagant way they wasted it.' - Mr. Crawford regarded tho matter as n great nuisance, and the council -decided, while not desiring to discourage sport, to write to the offending club calling attention to the matter. _ Messrs. Latham and Manthel, representing" thVWorser Bay School Committee, waited on the council in respect to tho running of tho, borough .bus along the waterfront during tho winter months. The-present timetable of the bus did not fit in, with the convenience of tho children. The depUtatibtusuggested the "rim. ning-of the bus at B.#a;ni.,' Svhich woiiln suit tho' children as,"well as. adults. The .Mayor proriiisod that tho matter'wouta receive the favourable consideration ol the council. ' ' ".
Tho council decided to ''(Support the following resolution, submitted, by tho Napier Borough Council: "That this council endorses tho action of ..the Now Zealand' Returned' Soldiers' Association in 1 requesting Cabinet to declare .Anr.ac ,Day a statutory holiday, inasmuch as it marks the entry of.'thV Dominion'Mo the great war,"
It-was decided to erect a tram shelter shed at a/cost of .£2O in Princes Street, Mifamar South.
